Apple Music lyrics that stay on screen on your Mac
Apple Music’s lyrics are lovely, as long as the Music window is open and on top. Peekabop keeps them on screen while you do something else: in the notch, in a floating pill, as subtitles or full screen.
Why the Music app’s lyrics disappear
On a Mac, Apple Music shows lyrics in a side panel of its main window. Switch apps and they’re hidden behind whatever you’re doing. There’s no mini lyrics window that stays on top, and the Now Playing widget in the menu bar shows only the title.
What Peekabop does
Peekabop reads the current track and playback position from the Music app, finds timed lyrics for it, and lights each word up as it’s sung. Pick where they appear:
- Notch: an island around your MacBook’s camera, sized to the line.
- Pill: a small glass pane that floats over everything; drag it anywhere or dock it on the notch.
- Subtitles: plate-free captions along the bottom of the screen.
- Stage: full screen karaoke with the album art blurred behind.
It follows along when you skip, scrub or pause, and works with songs from the Apple Music catalogue and your own library alike.
Setting it up
- Download Peekabop and open it; it appears in the menu bar.
- Play something in the Music app.
- When macOS asks whether Peekabop may control Music, allow it. That’s how it knows the track and where you are in it.
Music videos in Apple Music
Music videos often start with an intro or a different edit, so the song’s lyric timing doesn’t fit them. Peekabop notices when Music is playing a video and, on macOS 26, listens to it on your Mac to shift the lyrics into place. More on that on the video lyrics page.
Privacy
Only the song’s title, artist, album and length leave your Mac, to look the lyrics up. No account, no analytics in the app. The privacy policy lists everything.
