Synced lyrics for YouTube and music videos on your Mac
Watching a music video and want to sing along? Usually that means lyrics pasted in the description, or a lyrics site full of ads in another tab. Peekabop shows them on top of everything, in time with the video, word by word.
Any browser, any site
Peekabop works with whatever macOS knows is playing: YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify’s web player and other video or music sites, in Safari, Chrome, Arc, Firefox and other browsers. Nothing to install in the browser, no extension.
It cleans up video titles (“Official Video”, “Lyrics”, “HD”, the channel name…) to work out the song and artist, then finds timed lyrics on lrc.red and LRCLIB.
Why music video lyrics are usually out of sync
Synced lyrics are timed to the song as released. Music videos rarely match it: they open with a scene or a skit, use a radio edit, or pause halfway for a dialogue. Timed lyrics that are perfect on Spotify end up seconds early or late.
How Peekabop lines them up
With Match video timing on, Peekabop listens to the sound your Mac is playing, recognises a few of the sung words with Apple’s on-device speech recognition, and lets them vote on how far the lyrics are off. Once enough words agree, the lyrics lock in. If the video stops for a skit mid-song, it notices and lines them up again.
- The audio is analysed in memory on your Mac, never recorded or uploaded.
- It listens to what the Mac plays, never the microphone.
- macOS asks once for permission to capture system audio; Peekabop asks you before it starts listening.
- Video timing needs macOS 26. On older systems, browser lyrics still show, with the song’s own timing.
Where they show up
Video plays best with Subtitles: big captions along the bottom of the screen, readable over anything, even a full screen video. You can also use the notch, a floating pill, or Stage for full screen karaoke.
